The Russian authorities must protect Russians living in the Baltic countries from the "humiliation and persecution" they are experiencing, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said. According to him, we are talking about people of retirement age who once left for Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia on distribution, as well as those who were born in these countries, but "have retained Russian as their native language" and do not want to accept citizenship of another state. "We must certainly do everything to protect our citizens," Volodin said, instructing deputies to prepare proposals that should "cool the crazy heads" in the Baltic countries.

Russia could deploy two million reservists to Ukraine with law change
Conscripts could be called up to fight in peacetime for the first time to avoid unpopular mobilisation drive
Russia is paving the way to deploy about two million military reservists to Ukraine under new legislation.
The rule-change could unlock a vast number of troops at a time when Vladimir Putin is under pressure to mobilise new forces to refresh and expand his 700,000-strong force in Ukraine.
The amendments to the law, likely to be backed by parliament, would allow reservists to be called up during peacetime, rather than when war has been declared, given that Moscow still calls its invasion of Ukraine a “special military operation”.
